Parts Needed to Convert Disk Brakes to Electric Over Hydraulic on EZ Loader Boat Trailer
Question:
I have an EZ Loader tandem axle boat trailer 2014 year model with surge disk brakes. I would like to convert it to electric over hydraulic, using existing brake lines, calipers and disks if possible. Do you sell a pump/actuator, battery box and coupler kit for a project like this?

To convert the surge disk brakes on your 2014 EZ Loader Boat Trailer to electric over hydraulic brakes, you will just need a few things.
First you will need an electric brake controller that is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes. For your 2003 Ford Ranger, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is a proportional brake controller with digital display that will receive the signal from your vehicle's brakes and send it to the trailer's actuator. It will be mounted under your vehicle's dash once installed.
You will also need a universal wiring kit # ETBC7 to hard wire the brake controller and provide a 7 way connector to be used with your trailer. If your Ford Ranger does not already have a 4-flat installed, you will also need a wiring harness such as the Tekonsha T-One # 118344.
Next you will need an electric over hydraulic actuator. I recommend the HydraStar Marine Kit # HS381-9067. This HydraStar is specially designed for marine/boat trailer use because of its durable aluminum construction and a marine-grade gasket. This will help protect the actuator's internal components during use. This system also includes a Breakaway Kit and 7-way Harness so you will not need to purchase these separately.
Lastly, there are two options to consider for your trailer coupler if you convert to electric over hydraulic brakes. The first would be to simply remove your existing surge brake coupler and install a standard straight tongue coupler if possible. Some surge brake couplers may not allow this. I have included a link to our selection of straight tongue couplers since your choice will depend on the weight capacity you are needing. The other option is to just drill through your existing coupler and actuator housing and run a bolt through them to keep the coupler from moving when you brake.
The above products will work with your existing lines, calipers and disks. You will not need to replace these.
