Expert Reply:
The Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24788 is a Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitch that has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. This means the weight of a cargo carrier and whatever is on the carrier will have to no more than 200 pounds.
I found an owner's manual online for your 2005 Nissan Altima and it states the the vehicle's maximum tongue weight is 100 pounds. Check your owner's manual to be sure because you will be limited by the lowest rated factor. The Draw-Tite hitch will not increase your car's capacities.
For a cargo carrier that will fit a Class I hitch you can use the Curt # C18110.
