How to Choose Correct Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System
Question:
Do you have the 12,000 lb. equal-i-zer hitch? I saw the 14,000 lb. hitch but the trailer has GVWR of 9,999 lbs. and tongue weight of 1,000 lbs. so I think I need a 12,000 hitch.

The ideal situation for selection of a weight distribution/sway control system is that your fully-loaded trailer's measured tongue weight (TW) falls right near the middle of its operating range. The weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle, which will act just like trailer TW, should also be figured into the TW calculation.
For a total effective TW of 1000-lbs you will want a system such as the Equal-i-zer 4-Point # EQ37120ET that works over a TW range of 800 to 1200-lbs.
If you use a WD system rated too low for your actual TW you will not get the desired weight shift to the front axle; if you use one rated too high you can end up with weird handling from the trailer.
