Expert Reply:

Draw-Tite Class I hitch # 24816 fits several model years of the Mazda 3 and it has a maximum trailer weight capacity of 2000-lbs, along with a maximum tongue weight rating of 200-lbs. If your loaded trailer weighs less than 2000-lbs and places no more than 200-lbs of downward force on the hitch (tongue weight) then the hitch is capable of towing your small trailer.

You will also want to check your Mazda owner's manual to confirm that your specific Mazda 3 model year and version has the capacity to tow the trailer safely. The car could have a different rating than the hitch; the lower-rated item always determines overall capacity. You can find this in your manual index under Towing.

The two linked articles will help familiarize you with the items needed and the basics of towing.
