Recommended Hub Assembly For 1 Inch Diameter Spindles
Question:
I have a spindle that is 1 inch in diameter and was wondering what hub i need, my wheels are a 4 hole with 4 inch spacing? I bought a 1 1/16 hub assembly and it tightened up but then loosened after use. Do i need a 1 inch hub assembly? bMy old bearing measured a little over an inch though.

A BTR spindle uses a 1.063" diameter L44649 bearing and a BT8 spindle uses a 0.99" diameter L44643 bearing. In order to find out which you have you will need to pull the hub and either measure the spindle diameter where the inner and outer bearings ride with a digital caliper like # PTW80157 and/or look for the bearing numbers on stamped on the inside of each bearing.
For a 1 inch in diameter spindle, I recommend the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 4 on 4, # AKIHUB-440-2-1K. If you have the EZ lube Axles, the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 4 on 4, # AKIHUB-440-2-EZ-2K, are the hubs you will want to fit your spindles.
If you do have a BT8 spindle, the 1-1/16 inch hub assembly you mention will give way too much movement. The bearings and races are sized to the thousandth of an inch.
