Recommended Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2001 Ford F-150 with Flareside Bed

Question:

Is there a 5th wheel hitch that will work in a 6ft stepside F150?

Expert Reply:

The stepside or Flareside trucks, like your 2001 Ford F-150, cause issues with fifth wheel trailers because the bed is more narrow so there is less clearance between the truck and trailer. Most hitch manufacturers do not recommend using their hitches with a stepside for this reason.

However, the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400-5W is confirmed to work with your stepside bed. It's rated for 20,000 pounds and is a sliding hitch so it's also the right chioce for your 6-1/2 foot bed. To install the Companion you also need the Custom Underbed Kit # BWGNRK1197-5W which is also a turnoverball gooseneck hitch.

I've attached a review video for you to take a look at.
