I have a 2016 RAM 2500 with a 6ft bed and a Cougar Lite 27RKS. What hitch is best. I do not have mounting package.

With a 6-ft bed on your 2016 Ram 2500, you will need to have a fifth wheel slider hitch or replace the pin box on your trailer with a Sidewinder. This will ensure you can execute turns without damaging the trailer or your truck.

I recommend the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # DM8550034. This hitch eliminates having to get in and out of your truck cab to operate a manual slider. With the Autoslide feature the head of the hitch slides toward the rear when making a turn and returns when you complete the turn and straighten out. This hitch has a single jaw that wraps around the king pin so you have less rattle.

The installation kit you will need is the Demco Hijacker Premier Series Above-Bed Base Rails, part # DM8552025-71. No drilling in the truck frame is required when installing this kit because the custom brackets mount to the existing holes in your truck frame.

If you need a 7-way wiring harness for your trailer I recommend part # 41157.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
