Troubleshooting Curt Venturer Electric Brake Controller After Having Trailer Rewired
Question:
Hello! I purchased a Curt Venturer Brake Controller 51110 from you awhile back and got the pig tail attachment also that was recommended for it. Had it installed and worked fine for awhile but had my horse trailer rewired in the front and now trailer brakes not working anymore. Had my repair guy out again and he assures me the wiring is all connected. I noticed I am no longer getting the green bars when Jeep attached to trailer like Im supposed to. Also, for last two days Im getting a steady red light on controller that is intermittent. Could my controller or pig tail have gone bad? Nothing else has changed. Thoughts?......

it would be a pretty big coincidence for the harness to have something wrong with it just after the trailer was rewired. I would start by checking the trailer connector on the back of your Jeep and and on your trailer to make sure they're clean and free of corrosion. If the trailer connectors are both clean, then test the functions on your Jeep's connector using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. If all of this checks out the issue is on the trailer side.
The single red light generally means the trailer has been disconnected. Do you get a single green light if you engage the brakes? This should happen when you apply the brake pedal or manual override without the trailer hooked up. If it's a problem on the vehicle side it's likely the brake circuit wire coming from the controller to the back of the 7-way connector.
