Removing Trailer Bearing that is Stuck on Spindle After Removing Hub  

Question:

I have an old 6foot sears tent trailer with 8inch wheels 4 lug . question when I pull the hub off I cannot remove the inner bearing off the spindle. it popped off the hub with the grease seal and is still on the spindle ? This is the first time I have ever tried this job. Did not want to damage it with force .hammer At almost 70 years I am still trying to learn

The first thing to try to is add some penetrating oil like WD40 and let it sit for awhile. You can then try tapping the bearing to try and remove it. You don't want to hit it too hard because you can damage the spindle.

It is possible that the bearing has become welded to the spindle. This happens if there isn't enough grease and it gets too hot. If this is your problem the bearing and spindle are both bad, in which case it is recommended to replace the spindle or axle.
