Can Curt Trailer Hitch # 13091 Be Mounted Upside Down and Retain the Same Towing Capacity
Question:
Hi, regarding CURT 13091 rear mount hitch receiver, the tongue weight is 400 lbs for this unit. My question is: Is the tongue weight still the same at 400lbs if this hitch receiver is mounted upside down rise instead of ?

I spoke with my contact at Curt about trailer hitch # 13091. The hitch is designed to fit a 1992 to 2000 Mitsubishi Montero 2 or 4 door (but not Sport models), so if it is being installed on one of those specific vehicles, it cannot be used upside down.
However, if you plan to use this trailer hitch for a different application like a custom build, then you can install it upside down and it will maintain the 400 pound tongue weight capacity and 4,000 pound gross trailer weight capacity. One thing to keep in mind is that the receiver tube does stick out of the back of the hitch by 1-1/4 inches.
We also have numerous specialty trailer hitches if you are creating a custom build and need a non-vehicle specific trailer hitch. I have included a link to these below.
