Brakes On Trailer Are Locking As Soon as I connect Trailer To Vehicle
Question:
As soon as my trailer is connected to the trailer all 4 brakes on the trailer are locking. The brake controller’s light flickers slightly and begins to get very hot. This system was working correctly at first and then the problem started at first intermittently and now is always there. Adjusting the power of the controller has no effect on the problem. Thanks

I contacted our representative at Tekonsha and he gave me a few recommendations for you to determine what the problem is with your trailer brakes locking up.
First, he suggested that you check the Breakaway Switch wire on your trailer to make sure the pin is not loose or has come disconnected.
If that is not the problem, you will want to connect the trailer to the vehicle and then cut the blue wire 4 to 6 inches away from the brake controller. If the brakes on your trailer release after you cut the wire, then your brake controller is bad and will need to be replaced.
