Carrying 4 Bikes on A 2010 Honda Accord
Question:
If I install a Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitch item # 24834 on a 2010 Honda Accord and would like to use this 1 1/4 inch hitch rack 4 bike capacity, why is it recommended that I only carry two bikes? Is there not a way I can install a receiver hitch on the car and use a 4 bike rack? This is the number of bikes Id like to be able to transport.

There are only Class I Hitches available for the 2010 Honda Accord. The hitch manufacturers do testing for safety and have found that the 2010 Accord can only safely carry up to 200 pounds of tongue weight.
The reason that only two bikes are recommended, on a hitch mounted bike rack, for Class I hitches is that the added torque applied to the hitch and vehicle frame will be too great for the setup, and will eventually if not immediately, cause damage to the hitch or the vehicle frame. Basically, more than two bikes will be too far out behind the vehicle and the leverage, like adding a pipe to a wrench to brake loose a bolt, will be too great for the system.
The only way I see to safely carry 4 bikes with your vehicle is to use a hitch with a two bike rack and a roof rack system along with two roof mounted bike racks.
If you have a 4 door model with no existing rails or cross bars, the Yakima Roof Rack for 2010 Honda Accord would consist of the following parts, BaseClips # Y06148 and # Y06150, Round 58 inch CrossBars # Y00409, and Yakima BaseLine Towers # Y28TR with RoundBar Adapters # Y03536.
You would then need two bike racks to install on the cross bars. I recommend the Yakima FrontLoader Roof Mounted Bike Carrier, item # Y02103, which is economical and has an easy attachment system for the bikes.
You could then use the Draw-Tite Hitch Class I Hitch, item # 24834, and a two bike rack like the Swagman XC2 Wheel Mount Bike Rack, item # S64650.
