Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller When Brakes are Always Engaged
Question:
Hooking up a voyager controller to 1942 Chevy ton truck 12 volt. My trailer brakes are on continuous. Also the light on controller is red all the time. Can you help me?

It sounds to me like you have the red wire coming from the Tekonsha Voyager, # 39510, connected to the wrong wire under your dash. The red wire needs to connect to the cold side of the brake light switch which will only show power when the brake pedal is pressed. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993. This causes your trailer brakes to engage when the pedal is pressed, and not all the time.
I've attached a video of a brake controller being installed. If you skip ahead to about 7:20 in the video you can see the installation of the brake light switch.
If you're still having issues after you have the red wire connected to the correct brake light switch, let me know your current situation and we'll do some further troubleshooting.
