Does Reese Hitch and Rail Kit plus Sidewinder Weigh Less than Demco Hijacker Setup

Question:

The weight of the Demco Autoslide and underbed mount is approximately 385 lbs. The suggested Reese M5 Series 5th wheel hitch and underbed mount kit is approximately 200 lbs. I called e-trailer about the sidewinder pin box and was told the Air Ride for my trailer weighed 185 lbs. I asked if this is added to the trailer weight or the pin weight and I was told add this weight to the pin weight. I was trying to lower the weight over the rear axle. My addition shows they are the same weight about 385 lbs. Am I missing something here?

You are on the right track with your math but you have to also consider that if you are replacing your pin box with a Sidewinder 5th Airborne you would have to subtract the weight of the stock pin box on the trailer as that would get removed.

The weight of most 5th airborne Sidewinders is right at 166 lbs and then the weight of a standard pin box is a little under 100 lbs. So you would be gaining only around 60-70 lbs in that regard and not the full weight of the Sidewinder.

So by going with the Reese setup and Sidewinder you would end up cutting down around 100 lbs it looks like.

The Reese Elite underbed kit for your 2014 Ford F-150 would be the part # RP30144 and then for a stationary hitch the part # RP30921.

I am not sure what pin box your trailer has on it, but I attached l link to a page that has all of the Sidewinders we carry. Select your pin box number from the filters on the page and you will see all of the Sidewinders that would fit.
