What Type Of Hitch is Recommended for a 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 with Rail Kit
Question:
I have 2014 Dodge Mega cab with a short bed. I have ordered the extended hitch to put on my new trailer since I just turned it into the cab. Reading your formula for clearance it doesnt seem I will gain any turning clearance because the pivot point is in the same location is that correct? Does anyone make an extended ball for the factory hitch that came in the truck?

Expert Reply:
Gooseneck adapters like the AM3100 except with an offset really don't gain you any clearance as the pivot moves with the adapter. The only offsets that give you additional clearance are ones that move the pivot point back. There may be an offset gooseneck ball for your hitch.
Since you have a 2014 Dodge Ram with a factory rail kit you would want to go with a slider fifth wheel hitch to fit the rail kit like the part # RP30047 with the rail kit adapter part # RP30154.
You then would need to take off the gooseneck adapter and use the pin box to attach to the fifth wheel hitch.
