5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit for a 2016 Ram 2500 Short Bed

Question:

I have a 2016 Ram 2500 Crewcab assuming 6 1/2foot bed. Considering Northwood Fox Mountain 5th wheel. Wondering about best option for a hitch. The Ram does not have the 5th wheel prep package. Considering the Reese Revolution with a fixed hitch and the Demco Hijacker Autoslide. Believe the difference between the two is that the Reese permanently moves the pin back for clearance and the Demco only moves the pin back when necessary for tighter turns. Still will need a fixed hitch and adapter for the Reese. Would appreciate your input. Is one better than the other and can I adapt the pin on the Fox Mountain to accept the Reese? Thanks

If it were me I would use the Demco HiJacker 5th wheel hitch # DM8550034 which has 14 inches of travel and slides automatically like you said. Or you can use the 13K Demco hitch, # DM8550040, which has 22-1/2 inches of travel but is limited to 13,000 pounds gross trailer weight.

According to Northwood the max gross trailer weight of the Fox Mountain 5th wheel is 13,500 pounds so provided you kept it below 13,000 pounds hitch # DM8550040 is a great option.

The only other part you will need is an installation kit. For a custom kit for your 2016 Ram 2500 short bed that will work with either of the hitches above you can use # DM8552025-71. Custom kits minimize the amount of drilling required for installation.
