How to Wire Two 6 Volt Batteries Together so that the Output is 12 Volts

Best way to install 2, 6 volt batteries to run a 12 volt system on a tow trailer

If the batteries are wired in series, the positive terminal of one battery will be connected to the negative terminal of the other. This would double the output of the batteries, assuming each battery is a 6 volt, wiring the batteries in series would provide 12 volts of output.
I attached a picture that shows the way two batteries are typically wired together.
