Compatibility of 5th Wheel Hitch with Gooseneck Hitch Installation in 2005 Chevrolet 2500 Silverado

Question:

Hello,I just purchased a 1998 Jayco 22foot 5th wheel. They threw in the hitch, but I do not see any mounting brackets for the truck bed.I do have a center mount connection in the middle of the bed,for which I assume was for a gooseneck.Do I need to buy your rail adapter for my 2005 Chevrolet 2500 Silverado HD or just the brackets? It seems for just the $26 difference it is better to get the rail kit. Thank you.

Your options for installing a 5th wheel hitch in your 2005 Chevrolet 2500 Silverado long-bed that has a gooseneck hitch installed already will depend on the brand of gooseneck hitch. In general, towing without an adapter will often provide better performance. All gooseneck hitches for your truck are shown on the linked page.

If you happen to have a B&W gooseneck # BWGNRK1067 you could directly install their Companion 5th wheel hitch # BWRVK3500 without any type of adapter, or you could use the Curt X5 adapter for B&W # 16310 which drops in to the gooseneck ball hole to provide the equivalent of industry-standard 5th wheel base rails to accept your hitch.

If you have the Curt Double Lock Flip and Store Underbed Gooseneck # C60712 then instead you can use their X5 adapter for that hitch system, part # C16210.

If you happen to need a new wiring harness for the truck bed you can use part # 50-97-410 which plugs in at the bumper-mounted trailer connector.
