Can I Use a Sliding Fifth Wheel Hitch With My 2005 Ford F-150 5-1/2 Foot Bed

Question:

Will this hitch with roller set up fit in my 2005 f 150 pick up with a 5.5 box. I done the measurements for the Clarence and it will work. Will the no drillinch for frame brackets work? Thank you

The Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16521 will work for your 2005 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 foot bed. Normally a Sidewinder is recommended for beds shorter than 6 feet but if a Sidewinder isn't an option a sliding hitch is your best bet. However, you may run into clearance issues when attempting sharp turns if your trailer nose was not designed for short bed trucks.

A better hitch for your F-150 is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # DM8550040. This hitch features an automatic slider to help with your clearance issues. Since the slider is automatic there is no reason to get in and out of your truck every time you make a sharp turn. The slide will travel up to 22-1/2 inches which is equivalent to a Sidewinder so for turning clearance this is definitely going to be your best option. It's rated for 13,000 lbs. which should be plenty for anything you're towing with an F-150.

You will also need the Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for your truck # RP50081-58.
