Fit and Compatibility of Husky Centerline TS Weight Distribution System
Question:
I have a Travel trailer that has a UVW at 3870 and a GVW at 4720. I have been looking at the husky systems the TS and the Center line towing system. I am trying to figure out if the Centerline system will work with this trailer? The PDF from husky says not to use on trailers under 4000 lbs. I know when loaded I will be over this mark but am I just to close to that cut off weight wise? I am not sure. I like the theory of this hitch and it has pretty decent reviews other than the weight. So Im just wondering will this system work for my trailer or to close ? As for the TS system I am wondering what bars to go with? 400-600# or should I go for the 600-800# bars? the reason for this question is if I stay at the 10-12 tongue weight Im at 479-575# but if I go and load a little different and am unable to get that range and happen to go to 13 or more I jump to over the 600# mark . Im thinking of the 400-600# would be the right choice and I would just have to make sure I was able to maintain that tongue weight but Im just not sure. Just looking for a little help with this. All this towing stuff is new to me from the weights to the capabilities of the tow vehicle so Im just trying to make a informed decision. Thanks for any help you can provide me..

Don't worry, I can help explain how to find the right weight distribution system for you.
First thing to know is to choose the right weight distribution it will be based on loaded tongue weight, which is typically between 10-15 percent of the trailer and anything in addition to that loaded behind the rear axle. It's important that you fall within the middle of the loaded tongue weight capacity for best support. Based on your GVW that puts you at anywhere from 387-708lbs.
The Husky Centerline also known as the TS system would be a good choice for your travel trailer. Due to your weights you may be in the 400-600 tongue weight range that the # HT32216 or the # HT32215 will better suit. The difference between the systems is the size of the ball for your trailers coupler. # HT32216 has the 2-5/16 inch ball and the # HT32215 has the 2 inch ball. If you do find that your loaded and ready tongue weight is higher than 600-800lbs you will want to go with the Husky # HT32217 system you were looking at. If your trailer is going to be over the 4,000lbs weight you will not need to be concerned, I was unable to find the pdf you referenced.
If you have a trailer with brakes you will need a brake controller to control the brakes. For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P3 # 90195, because of its easy user interface. The P3 is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. It also has a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. The Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is like the P3's little brother, it has all the great qualities but doesn't have the display of the P3.
I have linked the above mentioned products as well as a few help articles on Weight Distributions and Tongue Weight for you to check out.
