Parts Needed to Install 7-Way and Brake Controller on a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 with 4-Way
Question:
I am U.S Army in Missouri and I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Qaud Cab 4x4 that has the factory hitch and 4 wire trailer connector on it. I would like to mount a trailer brake control and a 7 pin connector to pull my Pop Up Camper, what part numbers do I need? I see options for 7 way connector on the stock Ram 1500 but, I do not see any options for the 4 wire plug. Thanks,

We have exactly what you need to convert the 4-way on your 2000 Dodge Ram to a 7-way and then install your brake controller. For that you would want the part # ETBC7. It comes with everything needed to make the conversion and wire in the brake controller.
Now to make the install even easier you will also use the part # 3020-P. This will plug into the port under your dash and all you would need to do is run the wire found under your driver side wheel fender.
Usually located under the driver's side of the vehicle, right behind the front wheel well is a wire connector. As you can see in the picture there are more wires on the hood side (right side) of the connector than the hitch side. Using a circuit tester you can locate the wire that supplies power to the trailer brakes. Usually it is the blue one. Using a quick-splice, run a wire lead from the blue wire to the back of the vehicle. Enough wire will be needed to make it from the front wheel well to the end of the truck bed. The wire lead will connect to the blue wire on the 7-Way or 6-Way trailer adapter. After mounting the new trailer adapter and plugging it into the original 4-pole connector, installation is complete.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.
