Recommended Hitch Mounted Bike Rack to Carry Stromer ST2 Electric Bike on 2015 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
Hello, I have a 2015 Jeep wrangler, I am in need of a bike rack that will support the weight of an electric bike. Such as the Stromer ST2 that weighs approx 62lbs or so. I was recommended the Thule T2 pro, the Kuat NV, etc what I need to get proper assistance is determining the proper measurements to get the right bike rack for a 2 inch hitch opening. Also, if an adaptet is needed? I have about 12 1/2 inches from the opening of the hitch that comes with my vehicle, maybe 13 inches to be safe. So 13 inches of distance from the hitch to the clearance of my spare rear tire. Thanks~

The dimension you'd be concerned with is the hitch pin hole to the rearward edge of the spare tire distance.
Given the measurement you provided, neither the T2 Pro nor the Kuat NV would provide enough clearance to get past your spare tire. I've got carriers that can handle the weight of your bikes, but nothing that offers that much clearance.
The Swagman Current # S64678 can handle bikes up to 60 pounds and offers 12-3/4" of clearance when in use. The 12-3/4" sounds too close. You could measure again and see what you think.
We also have the Yakima HoldUp Evo # Y02479. It has 13-1/2 inches of clearance when in use. You would not be able to fold it. However, the weight limit is only 50 pounds per bike. Could you remove the battery and the seat to get within the weight limit? .
Using a hitch adapter isn't recommended because it lowers the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by half, and adding the extra piece in between the hitch and the rack will allow the rack to bounce and wobble around more than it would otherwise.
