Expert Reply:
The vertical pin weight of a 5th wheel trailer should be between 15 and 20 percent. On an 8,000 pound trailer, that equates to 1,200 to 1,600 pounds pressing down on the bed of the 1995 Dodge Ram 1500. This is a fair amount of weight and will most likely cause some sag at the rear and suspension enhancement can help.
The addition of springs like the Timbren Vehicle Suspension, # TDR1525H2, will help keep the truck level and absorb road shock when towing your 5th wheel trailer. They will also help with roll (side to side) movement, and prevent the rear suspension from bottoming out.
