Do Trailer Weight Distribution System Chains have to be Straight Up and Down
Question:
I am looking at the curt 17300 and it seems the bars go to 30 5/8. With winch, dual propane tanks and battery the closest I can mount the frame brackets is about 35. Do the chains need to be totally vertical or can I mount them with that offset? If not can you recommend a set up with longer bars with at least the same ratings as the 17300?

The chains on a chain hanging weight distribution system such as # 17300 really do need to be straight up and down or the system will be ineffective. What I recommend is a system that bolts to the sides of the frame so that it will not interfere with anything mounted on top of the frame.
If you want to stay with the Curt system # 17300 then another option is to add brackets # C17005 which bolt to the sides of the frame. Ball 19286 also fits this system. Going with the Curt system and adding the alternate brackets is the more economical way to go.
