How to Find Reverse Light Circuit on a Vehicle that Has Reverse Lights Mounted in Hatch

Question:

i have a mazda 2012 cx9 ,I purchaced a tow hitch, wireing harness and adapter part #20136 from etrailer. my problem is that the adapter needs to be connected to the reverse lights but the reverse lights are in the rear hatch not the rear side so how do connect the wire from the adapter to them. thanks

Between the hatch and the door frame will be a wire loom in a rubber conduit that will be carrying the reverse light circuit. What you will want to do is peal back the conduit so that you can test the wiring there for a circuit with a tester like part # PTW2993 that only sees voltage when the reverse light circuit is activated. Once you find that circuit you will want to trace the wiring back somewhere on the door frame side to a place that allows you to easily access it. Most likely this will be behind some interior panels.
