Replacement 5-Lug Wheel/Tire for 1978 Shoreline 3-Rail Motorcycle Trailer

Question:

i no longer have the wheels that came on trailer, as over the years i could not find tire for wheel. i do not know size. it was a low wide wheel/tire to bring trailer deck closer to ground for ease of loading and to accommodate the weight of trailer and 3 motorcycles. motorcycles Triumph Bonnevile 750 CC at the time were 395 # each. the trailer worked beautifully till i could not find tires for wheels when needed . the 13 or 14inch wheel that is on there now is very difficult for me to load by myself. the current wheels make the trailer too high for ease of loading solo. will your kenda wheel/tire 8x7 # AM3H325 work for what i have described above and is the tire mounted on wheel. my trailer wheel hub is a 5 lug but, i dont know what 5 on 4 and 1/2 means. my current wheel measures 14 diameter but 13 is printed on tire so i am not certain what size tire/wheel i currently have. i am hoping your # AM3H325 is what i originally had or close to it. please advise. i would like to order 3 if your wheel is what i need.

I could not find any specs for the wheels/tires on your 1978 Shoreline 3-rail motorcycle trailer. Sometimes the stock tire size will be noted on the VIN sticker. In any case we can help.

First, we need to confirm the hub/wheel bolt pattern as there are several different 5-bolt patterns. The linked article will tell you how to confirm which you have. Next we'll need to know the axle weight rating so that we can help you select tires of the appropriate Load Range that can handle the trailer's weight. The axle may have a sticker or plate on it that indicates its weight capacity, or the trailer's main identification sticker will state the axle capacity.

The Kenda Carrier # AM32181 is a 215/75-14 size radial special trailer tire that is mounted on a 14" White Wheel - with a 5 on 4-1/2 iinch bolt pattern These arrive with the tire mounted on the wheel.

The part you referenced, Kenda # AM3H325, is a 215/60-8 bias ply tire mounted to an 8-inch wheel with the 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern. This wheel/tire can handle 1165-lbs maximum load at its specified 70-psi inflation pressure. You can certainly use smaller wheels to give you closer height to the ground so long as you still have adequate ground clearance.

The linked articles on trailer tires may be of interest.
