Will The Surco Folding Cargo Carrier, # 52018F, Fit On A 2009 Toyota RAV4
Question:
Can you measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the folding basket adapter? On my 2009 Toyota RAV4 I have the OEM hitch receiver from Toyota installed. The receiver sits a few inches back from being flush with the edge of the bumper and I want to be sure the cargo carriers folding basket adapter can clear it without having to use a hitch extender due to the 50 tongue weight capacity reduction. Also, can you tell if Id be able to fully or partially open the RAV4s swinging rear door when the carrier is unfolded and empty? Can I use it folded? Thank you in advance.

On the Folding Cargo Carrier, # e98874, the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closet edge on the folding basket adapter when folded is 9-1/2 inches. You would need this clearance to use it folded.
To know if you will be able to open the rear door on your 2009 Toyota RAV4 with the carrier installed, unfolded and empty, you will have to measure the clearance on your vehicle. At the back of your vehicle, measure straight out from the center of the hitch pin hole 19-1/2 inches then 7-1/2 inches up from there (2 inch shank rise and 5-1/2 inches side rail height) up from the top of the hitch opening. This is where the load platform will start when the carrier is installed on your vehicle. Next, you can swing the door open and measure or just get an idea of how much clearance you will have for the load on the cargo carrier. Additionally, this carrier has a tilt feature. It tilts away from the vehicle when folded down. This should really help with your clearance issue.
When the carrier is folded up you will not be able to open the rear door without lowering the carrier first. When selecting a carrier the longer the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier will give you the most clearance for your hatch to open. This Folding Cargo Carrier is the cargo carrier with the longest measurement we have.
You will want to make sure when using the Brophy Hitch Extender, # HE06, that you do not overload the cargo carrier if used in the down position, because it will reduce the weight capacity of the lowest rated item in your setup by 50 percent.
I am sending video links to a review on the cargo carrier and the cargo carrier adapter.
