Compatibility of Flip-Over Model 229 Gooseneck Hitch w/ Curt X5 C16210 Gooseneck Adapter
Question:
I purchased a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 with a gooseneck hitch under the bed. It has a turn over ball but in the wheel well the stick says Flip-Over. From what research Ive done, the model used on this truck is a Flip-Over 229. Will the Curt X-5 fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter work properly with this gooseneck hitch?

Expert Reply:
Curt manufactures X5 models that will fit in B &W Turnover Ball or Curt Gooseneck Hitches. The way the Flip-Over Gooseneck ball latches to the hitch isn't compatible with the X5 adapters.
I'd recommend removing the hitch, and installing fifth wheel hitch install rails in the bed of the truck, like part # RP50140-58 unless your truck has overload springs and a gas engine, in which case you'd use # RP56011-53.
Once the rails are in place, you can use any industry standard rail compatible fifth wheel hitch you wish. If you should need to tow a gooseneck hitch, use a plate adapter like # 16055.
