Should Rear Liftgate of a 2013 Ford Explorer Open with Trunk Rack Installed
Question:
HeLloyd, I recently bought a Thule Passage trunk bike rack and installed it on my 2013 ford explorer. After putting it on, my hydraulic liftgate would not open and close properly. Theres no manual way to open it. I am wondering if this is normal or if there is a problem with the installation? Thanks!

Expert Reply:
You are not supposed to open rear hatches or lift gates with trunk mounted bike racks installed. The additional weight makes the hatch unpredictable and could cause it to slam down and hurt someone. Plus it can damage the door frame of the vehicle it is installed on.
You would need to remove the rack before opening it.
