the Rhino-Rack Dual Trekker bike rack # RRRBC048 fits 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch trailer hitches so provided that your 1998 Subaru Forester has a trailer hitch this bike rack will fit it. there are a couple of measurements to consider as well. The bike rack measures 12 inches from the center of the pin hole back to the closest part of the rack when folded down and 3 inches when folded up.

On the vehicle the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole back to clear the rear bumper would need to be less than 12 inches for the rack to fit when folded down and less than 3 inches to be able to fold it up.

If you need a trailer hitch I recommend # 36311 because with it there is no special equipment needed to use it with a bike rack like there is with the Curt hitch.
