Adjustability of B&W Companion Goosenck to 5th Wheel Hitch Adapter
Question:
Hello I have a 2015 F250 superduty short box. I have the B W turnover ball installed. The ball centre is 35 1/2 inches from the inside front of the truck box, so another inch or 2 to the rear window Concerning the BWRVK3500 hitch can you tell me: with the head adjusted as far aft as possible I think there is a 4 inch total adjustment what then would be the distance from the king pin centre to the gooseneck ball receiver that the hitch sits on. Trying to get an idea of how much cab clearance i would have. Thanks

The B&W Companion Hitch Adapter # BWRVK3500 that you referenced offers a couple adjustability options to provide the best positioning and clearance for different trucks. When the hitch adapter is adjusted so that the king pin is furthest from the gooseneck post, the king pin is setting 7 inches behind the gooseneck. This 7 inches is the furthest from the back of the gooseneck post the king pin can be positioned. I've attached a photo of the adjustment chart for this hitch from the installation instructions.
Since your 2015 Ford F-250 is a short box, 6-3/4 foot bed, to provide the best turning clearance I recommend using the B&W Companion Slider Hitch Adapter # BWRVK3400. This hitch has less set-up adjustability, so when the hitch head is in the towing position (closest to the cab) the king pin will be 3-1/2 inches behind the gooseneck. With 12 inches of additional clearance because of the slider, when the hitch is slid back into the turning position, the king pin will sit 15-1/2 inches behind the gooseneck.
The installation instructions and review videos for both of these gooseneck-to-5th-wheel adapters are linked for you. Typically, fixed 5th wheels like the # BWRVK3500 are used in trucks with long beds, while short bed trucks with beds longer than 6 feed traditionally use a sliding hitch like # BWRVK3400.
