Troubleshooting Trailer Blinkers that Both Flash When One Blinker is Applied

Question:

I need to figure out how to fix this issue considering I have to use a trailer to move tomorrow. Ive unistalled the factory wiring which is a 7 round, since it was what I initially thought was giving me the issue I installed a brand new harness thinking that would fix the issue but alas here we are. I read the article on the 3 types of issues I could be facing, however I did not find a way to fix these issues. I did have a lot of dirt buildup inside the connector and along the insulation for the wires themselves. I drive a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The blinker circuits of the trailer wiring are shorting together somewhere on either the trailer side or the truck side of the wiring.

What you can do is use a circuit tester like part # 3808 to test the pins of the connector on your Sierra while the blinkers are applied to see if they work properly. If so, then the problem is on the trailer side of the equation. If both circuits blink with one blinker then you know it's on the truck side.

Either way you will be looking for cut or exposed wire between the two circuits that could be touching each other. If you can find and fix that the problem will go away.
