Selecting Installation Location for Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler D13960
Question:
2011 GMC SIERRA THE DERALE D13960 is what you recommend Will it fit were the OEM COOLER IS?

Expert Reply:
Since transmission coolers are not vehicle-specific you'll want to compare the dimensions of the Derale Hyper-Cool # D13960 (13- wide x 10- tall x 5-5/8-inches deep) to the available mounting locations in your engine compartment. Flexibility in mounting point is one of the advantages of a fan-powered cooler. Since they don't rely on passive air flow for cooling they'll work effectively almost anywhere you can fit one.
Coolers like this Derale Hyper-Cool are intended to supplement the OEM coolers on vehicles. Since it is a powered cooler you could remove the existing cooler but I would leave it in place (unless it is damaged) and simply add the Derale downstream so it can further reduce your transmission operating temperature. That way if you're going down the highway the OEM cooler can handle most of the load, leaving the Derale available for low-speed driving when the passive cooler just can't get enough air to do its job.
