Can a 2014 Volkswagen Routan Tow a 4,300 Pound Trailer Using Weight Distribution
Question:
Hi Guys and Gals, I fitted a class 4 hitch to my 2014 VW Routan and the tow capacity for it is 2000 lbs I also have a WDH , so does this mean I can tow a camper weighing, loaded to a max weight of about 4300 lbs when the vehicle is fitted like this. The camper dealers say that you can tow a SONIC camper with a minivan

Weight distribution does not increase the towing capacity of a vehicle. If your 2014 Volkswagen Routan maxes out at 2,000 pounds then that is the most that the trailer can weigh. Also, given the towing capacity of the vehicle it may not even be rated for use with weight distribution. You would need to check the vehicle owner's manual for that. I was unable to open the digital version of the manual.
I looked up the Sonic campers and the lightest one is 2,480 pounds which is the unloaded (dry) weight so you would not be able to tow a Sonic camper with your Routan. There are other mini vans that have a higher towing capacity but even those usually max out at 3,500 pounds.
If you have a different tow vehicle like a truck or larger SUV then I recommend using it. Or if the Routan is the only option I recommend the basic 13 foot Scamp trailer which weights 1,200 to 1,500 pounds.
