What Modifications are Required to Install a Front Mount Trailer Hitch on 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500
Question:
Im considering this hitch for my 03 Silverado 1500HD. I havent seen any pictures of one of these installed so I have a couple questions. It looks like Id have to cut a hole in my wind dam. Is this true? If so, Im assuming the receiver would be flush with the wind dam. How do you go about putting the hitch pin in? Do you have to crawl up underneath the rig each time? Do you have to relocate the front license plate? Where does this mount? Do I need to remove my tow hooks? Thanks!

The Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch, # 31302, can be installed on your 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD in two ways. It can be installed with the hitch receiver through the bumper which would require a 3 inch square hole to be cut into the plastic fascia, or it can be installed under the bumper which requires no trimming.
The receiver opening will protrude far enough out so insert/remove the hitch pin without having to go beneath the truck. The instructions do not mention relocating the front license plate, but they do mention the tow hooks stating that models with tow hooks must remove the factory bolt from the underside of the frame at the forward attachment point. But it does not say the tow hooks have to be removed. I have included a link to the installation instructions below.
