Installing Brake Controller And Wiring Harness On 2015 Ford Flex Without Factory Tow Package
Question:
Hello, I have a 2015 Ford Flex. Without the tow package. I installed the factory tow harness in the back bumper which gives me the 7 and 4 pin connectors and the factory hitch. I have the factory brake controller plug under my dash see attached picture but it doesnt connect to the 22292 harness. It seems that both plugs are male. Can you please point me in the correct direction on a brake controller plug for my 2015 flex. If one doesnt exist, would you happen to know which wires are utilized for the brake controller?

I have attached a drawing that shows how the wires are run for the # ETBC7 and brake controller wiring. There is no plug-in adapter available for a brake controller for your Flex with no factory towing package so it will be a hardwire installation. I called my contact at Tekonsha and they said the plug you sent the photo of is not the connector used for a brake controller.
You will need to use the circuit tester that came with the # ETBC7 to test the wires on your Flex. The red wire from the back of the brake controller will need to be attached to the cold side of the stop light switch(located at the top of the brake pedal under the dash). The cold side will only show power when the brake pedal is pushed.
The blue wire from the brake controller will need to be run to the blue wire on the 7-way at the rear of the vehicle. The black wire is run to the positive battery post with a 30-amp circuit breaker inline, and the white wire is run to the negative battery post on the vehicle.
