Cannot Get Constant Green Light on Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller on 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Question:

Have this unit wired to a factory supplied wiring harness with 1st color is from the factory wiring harness to the Voayger unit red to black, lt. green to red, white to white and blue to blue. I cannot get a constant green light. What should check? Wiring appears to be correct, can the unit be bad?

The first thing I would check is the wiring on the truck with the 20260 harness connected. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the wires for function. The wire that carries a constant signal is your 12-volt power wire and it connects to the black brake controller wire.

Next, find the wire that carries a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed. It should not have a signal at any other time (like if the turn signals are engaged or the headlights are on). That wire connects to the red wire on the brake controller. White is ground more than likely on the truck and that will match the brake controller as will the blue wires for brake output.

If your truck originally had a factory 4-Way, there are also some fuses and relays required to make the brake controller and a 7-Way work. Take a look at the Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, 7-Way, # 118243. I have included a link to the installation details below.

It is also possible that there is a bad or loose ground connection either at the brake controller or at the trailer connection. Check for loose or broken grounds and clean off any corrosion on the trailer connectors. If the fuses and relays and wiring all check out, then there is probably something wrong with the internal circuity of the brake controller and it will need to be replaced.
