We have exactly what you need.
Kit # ETBC7 contains all of the parts needed to convert your 2008 Mercury Mountaineer's factory 4-pole wiring to a 7-way style for your new camper that has electric brakes. The kit includes a 7-way socket (that also has a 4-pole in case you ever still need one) which simply plugs in to your existing 4-pole and also has the wiring, connectors and other parts needed to install a brake controller like the popular and reliable Prodigy P2 # 90885. I have linked a helpful article and video covering the installation of this kit.
The P2 is among the highest-rated brake controllers on the market thanks to its simple set-up and proven performance. This is the unit I recommend if you do not already have one.
