You will most certainly need a brake controller to activate trailer brakes of a 30 foot travel trailer. I attached a help article on how to add electric brakes to a trailer for you to check out.
For your 2005 Dodge Ram you will need to install a brake controller to activate the trailer's brakes. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.
To install this controller will only require the install harness part # 3020-P which I attached an install video for as well.
