Trailer Light Turns On After 20 Minutes of Turning Off Tow Vehicle, a 2000 Lincoln LS
Question:
we have purchased 2 trailer wiring harnesses from you and both have the same result... after the car deactivates, usually within 30 minutes, the left stoplight on trailer lights up. The car is a 2000 Lincoln LS. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thank you

I spoke with my contact at Curt about the Wiring Harness, # C55373, on your 2000 Lincoln LS. The good news is that there is nothing wrong with the wiring harness. What is happening is that on your model vehicle (and a handful of others) there is what is called a battery saver mode that kicks in about 20 minutes after the vehicle has been turned off. With the trailer connected, it thinks that it still needs to deliver power and that will cause the light to light up on the trailer.
My contact stated that what you will need to do to keep this from happening is to disconnect the trailer connector from the vehicle connector when parking for an extended period. The other option if you do not want to unplug the connectors is to open the trunk and pull the wiring harness fuse out. When you are ready to go again just re-insert the fuse.
