Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a Truck with Fifth Wheel Rails Instead of Fifth Wheel Adapter

Question:

Hello I would like to go from fifthwheel to gooseneck and my questions are whats the total length of the rancher unit from bolt pattern that gets put up tight to the king pin to the bottom of the unit that goes in to the ball I have a curt plate with a 2-5/16 ball I leveled the trailer with the truck underneath it where the ball and king pin together inline the length from the top of the ball to the plate where the kingpin are on is 8.1/2 and from the bottom of the ball to the plate is 11.1/2 will the rancher hitch work for this

Why not use a fifth wheel hitch? You have a set of fifth wheel rails installed in the bed of the truck and since typically adapters like the part # AM3100 void the warranty of the trailer they are installed on this would not be an ideal solution for you. That being said this adapter has a height range of 11-3/4 inches to 14-3/4 inches when measured from the top of the ball to the king pin plate. Since you measured to the bottom of the ball you would need to remeasure.

The Curt Q24 # C16245 is right at the same price point and would be a better solution. This hitch has a height range of 13 to 17 inches measured from the king pin plate to the top of the fifth wheel rails.
