Roof Rack Recommendation for 2006 Toyota Matrix with Naked Roof and No Fixed Points
Question:
The strip that covers the anchor points on my 2006 matrix is one continuous strip with no breaks or anchor point covers as you describe. Do I remove the entire cover strip or do I not have these anchor points?

It sounds like your 2007 Toyota Matrix does not have the OEM fixed mounting points for installing the Rola roof rack 59721. If the roof did have the fixed points there would be covers in the strip you mentioned that could be removed.
Instead you would want the Rhino Rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK062 which has been confirmed as a fit for your vehicle and do not use the fixed points. This rack clamps to the door frame instead.
