Choosing BoatBuckle G2 Retractable Ratcheting Transom Tie-Down Straps

Question:

I am interested in purchasing boat buckles and am unsure if I need the 1inch or 2inch wide version. I have a 17 foot aluminum jon boat with a 70 hp motor. The entire boat with motor weighs an estimated 1400 pounds. Please advise. Best.

For your 1400-lb boat/motor I suggest you play it safe and use the 2-inch Ratcheting Transom Tie-Downs # IMF08893. These have enough capacity plus a nice safety margin.

With items like tie down straps you always want to use them within their WLL, or working load limit. This is their actual real-world capacity, as compared to their breaking strength which is 3 times the WLL. The idea is to choose a tie down that will never be used near its break strength. None of us ever wants to be near any such product when it fails!
