Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for 2013 Ram 2500 Short Bed
Question:
What fifth wheel hitch and rail kit would you recommend for a 2013 Ram 2500 short box? Wed like either a 18k or 20k. Were looking for one that will provide a secure connection for a smooth ride. Were looking at the curt sliding hitch or The Patriot 18k sliding hitch but open to suggestions. Thanks

Either the Curt # C16541 A20 Fifth Wheel Hitch w/ Slider with its 20K capacity or the 20K Capacity B&W BWRVK3270 Patriot Sliding Fifth wheel hitch would be a great choice. Both hitches are high quality, and would offer you a secure, relatively smooth ride. For the Curt hitch, use the # C16430-204 rail kit or for the B&W Patriot, use # BWRVK2605.
My only issue with bed rail mounted hitches is the fact that the rails remain in the bed when you're not using the hitch. If you don't use the truck bed, this won't be much of an issue. If you use your truck bed to haul anything that would need to be shoveled or raked out of the bed, you won't want the bed rails getting in the way.
That's why I prefer and under bed mounted setup, like the B&W Companion, part # BWRVK3400-5W. The hitch has an 20K capacity, and would actually mount to the truck using a B&W Turnover Ball Gooseneck Hitch, part # BWGNRK1308-5W for a Mega Cab model, or # BWGNRK1313-5W for non-Mega Cab models. This set-up also gives your the flexibility of tow a gooseneck trailer if the need should ever arise and leaves your truck bed fully usable when the hitch isn't in place.
To install a 7-way trailer connector in the truck bed, use part # 41157.
