Expert Reply:
The GMC Safari Van is not equipped with brake controller wiring connector under the dash, like the GM full size truck and SUV is.
Installing a brake controller on the Safari will require hard wiring a brake controller. We have a Brake Controller Installation Kit, item # ETBC7, that includes all of the wiring, circuit breakers and hardware needed to install a 7-Way trailer connector and a brake controller on your vehicle, as long as the factory 4-Way wiring is in place and working properly.
We also have detailed instructions (see link) for installing the kit on your vehicle. The only other item I would suggest for the installation is a circuit tester, item # PTW2993, if needed. The circuit tester will be used to find the stop light switch wire under the dash behind the brake pedal.
If your vehicle does not have a working 4-Way installed you will need to install the 4-Pole Hardwire Kit, item # 18252, using the circuit tester mentioned earlier to connect the wires by function. We have a video installation for this wiring kit on a 2005 Safari for you to review.
If you are looking for a quality brake controller the Prodigy P2, item # 90885, is an excellent choice. Our customer reviews are excellent for this product and it is easy to set up and adjust.
