Will Yakima Spare Tire Carrier for Roof Baskets Fit a Curt Basket on a 2008 Ford Escape

Question:

I got a 2008 Ford Escape with a curt roof basket on top, WITHOUT the curt extension, can I still buy the Yakima spare tire mount and use it on my curt basket? This would save me the hassle of buying the curt extension, since Im short on money currently. So would the Yakima roof basket tire mount work on my curt roof basket with no extension?

The Yakima spare tire carrier # Y07076 will fit a Curt cargo basket # C18115 but it holds the tire in the confines of the basket. So if the basket you have is not wide or long enough for the spare tire on your 2008 Ford Escape then you would need either a different basket or the extension for the Curt basket, # C18117.

If your Escape has the standard 235/70-16 tires then those are roughly 29 inches in diameter so there should not be a problem fitting in the Curt 41.5 x 37 inch basket.
