Weight Distribution for a 2015 Outdoor Wind River 250RDSW and 2011 Toyota Tundra

Question:

We are purchasing a 2015 Outdoor Wind River 250RDSW and will be pulling it with a 2011 Tundra with 5.7 motor. We are looking at an equalizer hitch thru etrailer. The dealer is trying to sell us a center line hitch for $700. What would you recommend in an equil-l-zer hitch?

I did a little research and found that your 2015 Outdoor Wind River 250RDSW travel trailer has a gross weight capacity of 8,700 pounds. This would make the tongue weight 870 to 1,305 pounds. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

Based on the potential tongue weight of the trailer I recommend the 1,400 pound Equal-I-zer system, # EQ37140ET, if the tongue weight is 1,000 to 1,400 pounds. If the total tongue weight does not exceed 1,200 pounds then # EQ37120ET rated for 800 to 1,200 pounds will work.

For either system the shank and 2-5/16 inch ball are both included! But we do recommend thin-walled socket # ALL643216 to install the ball. I have included some links to videos and help articles on weight distribution and determining tongue weight for you.
