Transmission Cooler Recommendation to Bypass the Factory Cooler on a 2005 Dodge Dakota 4.7

Question:

The transmission cooling line fitting pulled out of radiator - no threads to speak of left. Can I use a separate trans cooler or do I need to replace vehicle radiator first.

Expert Reply:

You can bypass the factory transmission cooler located in the radiator of your 2005 Dodge Dakota. You will need to plug the inlet and outlet lines in the radiator and then I recommend using the most efficient cooler that you can get.

I recommend a stacked plate cooler such as # D13403 which is extra efficient or a cooler than has its own fan such as # D15900 so you are sure to get the optimum cooling all the time. The benefit of the remote cooler with a fan is that you don't have to mount it around the radiator. You can mount it anywhere there is space!
