Troubleshooting Prodigy P3 Brake Controller that Isn't Connecting to Trailer Brakes

Question:

Hello- Ive got a tekshona p3 that isnt detecting my trailer. Ive checked the wiring and it seems to be proper, all my lights are working fine. Going into the troubleshooting menu on the tekshona at rest, I see 14.1v from the power source and 0.0 for stoplight, output volts and amps. When I step on the brakes, I get 13 v on the stoplight, 3.5v output and 0.0 output amps. When I pull the manual lever all the way over I get ~12v on the output voltage and no output amps. I can probe the blue wire going into the 7pin and the pin for brake power and get a dim light in the tester. Does this seem like a bad controller or something else at play? Thank you!

Based on what you described the first and easiest solution would be to try cleaning the brake output pin on the trailer connectors on your tow vehicle and trailer. A little corrosion can cause the controller to not be able to connect to the trailer. A bent pin on the connectors can cause the same problem.

Aside from that it would be a matter of tracing the brake output circuit back from the connector to the assemblies to make sure the wiring isn't damage anywhere or the grounds of the assemblies came loose.
