Can Rear Swing Door Open with Cargo Carrier Installed on a 2001 Toyota RAV4
Question:
Hello, I am just wondering if I am able to open the door of my 2001 Rav 4 if I mounted this cargo carrier on my car? I noticed in the video you have the a 2013 Rav 4, where the door opens like a hatch back. Just wondering if theres enough clearance for the spare tire on the 2001 model. Thanks in advance!!

There is an easy way to determine if a cargo carrier, including # 63153, will clear the spare tire when you open the rear door on your 2001 Toyota RAV4. The cargo carrier has a 2-1/2 inch rise in the shank and the basket part is 5-1/2 inches tall. So if you measure from the top of the receiver opening on your trailer hitch straight up 8 inches that is approximately where the top of the carrier will be.
What I recommend is to use a carrier that has a straight shank, no rise, and shorter rails, # CC-100. This carrier will be only about 3 inches (2-15/16 inches) up from the top of the receiver opening. I have linked a video review of it as well.
Of course if you have cargo on the carrier then you would not be able to swing open the door without first removing the cargo.
